Gap Year Traineeships are exactly what they sound like – undertaking a Traineeship in your Gap Year.

Gap Year Traineeships run for the calendar year following the completion of year 12.

There are many benefits in undertaking a Gap Year Traineeship, here are some scenarios:

Know what you want to study at University? E.g. Teaching? Well if you’re thinking of taking a Gap Year, why not make it worthwhile and contribute to your career?
You can undertake a Gap Year Traineeship studying a qualification such as ‘Certificate III Education Support’ whilst working on the job at a Primary or Secondary School full-time. You will be earning money and come out the end with a qualification and valuable employment skills. You will also look much more attractive to any employer once you’ve completed your University degree, and have these practical skills.
We have also found that sometimes Gap Year Trainees get to the end of their Traineeship and have decided to go down a different pathway. They have found the experience to be invaluable in this way as they didn’t waste their time doing something at University that they ended up not wanting to do. “I thought I wanted to be a teacher, however now I feel that I want to work in Nursing” This was a comment from a former VGTC Gap Year Trainee who studied Certificate III Education Support whilst working at a Primary School. The Trainee worked with special needs children throughout the year and found their true calling was to nursing.
Remember, you are earning whilst learning and you can effectively give yourself a head start over other students at university due to your invaluable experience gained in your Gap Year.
In some cases, your Traineeship qualification can contribute to your degree.
