Sisters Day Out 2015 (Warrnambool)
July 22, 2015‘Sisters Day Out’ are well-being workshops for Aboriginal women run at different locations throughout the year in Victoria.

Alexis, Moana & Gemma
Gemma Middleton from VGTC attended the 96th workshop held in Warrnambool on Tuesday 21st July along with Moana and Alexis from Raw Recruitment (Aboriginal recruitment/employment services in Victoria).
The Sisters Day Out program is a one-day workshop that engages with Koori women, and in particular young Koori women, for the purpose of preventing family violence by facilitating community networks to reduce social isolation, raising awareness of family violence and its underlying cause and impacts, and by providing information and tools to promote community safety.
The workshop provides a culturally welcoming and safe space for Koori women to come together and participate in a range of activities including beauty therapies, relaxation therapies and exercise activities. These activities attract community participants and place an emphasis on self-care and well-being. Included within the workshop is an information session about family violence prevention presented by Family Violence Prevention and Legal Service (FVPLS) Victoria staff.
FVPLS Victoria invites a range of local service providers to participate in the event.
FVPLS Victoria lawyers are also available for any participant requiring advice, and a counsellor is also available for participants requiring a personal conversation about their circumstances.
See www.fvpls.org for more information.
Throughout the day, we spoke with Koori women about the services and opportunities we offer. In particular we are partnered with ANZ bank to deliver school-based indigenous traineeships with a current vacancy in Warrnambool.
We watched the ladies being pampered in things such as hairdressing, facials, massage, make-up and more! There were smiles all round in such a positive and supportive environment.
It’s a fantastic day out and it was a privilege to be a part of it.
